Community Guidelines

Last Updated: [TO BE CONFIRMED]

Introduction

Chore is a community-based marketplace where neighbours help each other with everyday tasks. These guidelines exist to keep Chore safe, fair, and trustworthy for everyone. They apply to everything you do on Chore — the chores you post, the services you offer, the messages you send, and the way you treat other users.

These guidelines form part of our Terms of Service. Violating them may result in a warning, suspension, or permanent removal from the platform.

1. Treat Everyone with Respect

Chore is built on trust between neighbours. You must treat every user with courtesy and respect, whether you are communicating through the app, meeting in person, or leaving a review.

You must not:

  • Use abusive, threatening, or offensive language in any communication
  • Harass, intimidate, or bully other users
  • Discriminate against anyone on the basis of age, disability, gender, gender reassignment, marriage or civil partnership, pregnancy or maternity, race, religion or belief, sex, or sexual orientation — these are protected characteristics under the Equality Act 2010
  • Make unwanted sexual advances or send inappropriate content of any kind
  • Attempt to contact a user outside the app without their consent

If someone asks you to stop contacting them, you must do so immediately.

2. Be Honest

Trust is the foundation of Chore. Everything you post, say, and do on the platform must be honest and accurate.

You must not:

  • Post false or misleading chore descriptions, prices, or locations
  • Misrepresent your skills, qualifications, or experience
  • Create a fake profile or impersonate another person
  • Manipulate the review system — including leaving fake reviews, pressuring others to leave reviews, or offering payment in exchange for positive reviews
  • Provide false information to Chore staff during a dispute or investigation

3. Keep Transactions on the Platform

All agreements and payments between Posters and Helpers must take place through the Chore app. This protects both parties and ensures there is a record of the transaction.

You must not:

  • Agree to pay or accept payment outside the app
  • Share bank account details, card details, or payment information directly with another user
  • Ask another user to pay you through a third-party service (such as bank transfer, PayPal, or cash) to avoid platform fees
  • Arrange to complete a chore that was agreed outside of Chore

Off-platform payments remove all protections for both parties and are a violation of these guidelines and our Terms of Service.

4. Post Appropriate Chores Only

Chores must be legal, appropriate, and achievable by a member of the public without specialist professional licensing.

You must not post or accept chores involving:

  • Any illegal activity or anything that would constitute a criminal offence
  • Services requiring professional licensing the Helper does not hold, including Gas Safe registered work, Part P electrical installation, legal advice, financial advice, or medical services
  • Adult, sexual, or intimate services of any kind
  • Collection, delivery, or handling of controlled substances or illegal drugs
  • Any service involving a person under 18
  • Anything that Uplyva Limited determines to be unsafe, exploitative, or inappropriate for the platform

If you are unsure whether a chore is appropriate, contact us at contact@uplyva.com before posting it.

5. Be Safe

Your safety and the safety of others is the most important thing. When meeting another user in person, please follow common-sense safety practices.

We recommend that you:

  • Communicate clearly through the app before agreeing to meet
  • Meet in a visible location where other people are present where possible
  • Tell a friend or family member where you are going and who you are meeting
  • Trust your instincts — if something feels wrong, walk away
  • Keep all communication on the Chore platform so there is a record

Chore does not verify users' identities, backgrounds, or qualifications. You are responsible for satisfying yourself that you are comfortable proceeding with any chore before agreeing to it.

If you ever feel unsafe, remove yourself from the situation and contact the appropriate emergency services. Report the incident to us at contact@uplyva.com as soon as you are safe.

6. Leave Fair and Honest Reviews

Reviews help the Chore community make informed decisions. They must be honest, fair, and based on your genuine experience.

You must not:

  • Leave a review for a chore you did not complete or were not involved in
  • Leave a false, malicious, or retaliatory review intended to damage another user's reputation unfairly
  • Leave reviews in exchange for payment or any other benefit
  • Pressure another user to change or remove a review

Reviews are permanent once submitted. If you believe a review you have received is false or malicious, you may report it to us at contact@uplyva.com and we will investigate.

7. Protect Others' Privacy

You must respect the privacy of every user on Chore.

You must not:

  • Share another user's personal information (including their name, address, phone number, or email address) with third parties without their consent
  • Use information obtained through Chore to contact, track, or locate another user outside the platform without their consent
  • Take or share photographs or recordings of another user without their consent
  • Attempt to identify an anonymous or pseudonymous user

All messages on Chore are encrypted. You must not attempt to circumvent this encryption or access messages you are not a party to.

8. Use the Platform as Intended

Chore exists to connect neighbours for everyday tasks. You must use it for this purpose only.

You must not:

  • Use Chore for commercial purposes, including advertising a business or soliciting clients for services provided outside the platform
  • Use automated tools, bots, or scripts to interact with the platform
  • Attempt to scrape, copy, or reproduce platform content without our permission
  • Attempt to hack, disrupt, or interfere with the platform or its infrastructure
  • Create multiple accounts, including to circumvent a suspension or ban

9. Report Concerns

If you see behaviour that violates these guidelines, please report it. Reporting helps keep the Chore community safe for everyone.

You can report a user or a chore through the in-app reporting system. When submitting a report, please include as much detail as possible, including relevant screenshots or messages.

We take all reports seriously and will investigate within a reasonable timeframe. Reports are confidential — the user being reported will not be told who reported them.

You must not make false or malicious reports against other users. Doing so is itself a violation of these guidelines.

10. Consequences of Violations

We take violations of these guidelines seriously. Depending on the nature and severity of the violation, we may take the following actions:

  • Issue a formal warning
  • Temporarily suspend your account
  • Permanently remove your account from the platform
  • Remove content that violates these guidelines
  • Report conduct to law enforcement or regulatory authorities where required by law

Serious or repeated violations will result in permanent removal. We do not tolerate harassment, fraud, or any conduct that puts other users at risk.

If your account is suspended, you will be notified and given the opportunity to appeal as described in our Terms of Service.

11. Appeals

If you believe action has been taken against your account in error, you can appeal through the in-app appeals process or by emailing contact@uplyva.com within 30 days of the action being taken. We will review your appeal and respond within 14 days.

12. Changes to These Guidelines

We may update these guidelines from time to time. When we make material changes, we will notify you through the App and require you to review and accept the updated guidelines before continuing to use Chore. The most recent version will always be available at uplyva.com/chore/community-guidelines.
