Welcome to Chore. These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your access to and use of the Chore mobile application and related services (collectively, the "Service"). By creating an account or using Chore, you agree to be bound by these Terms.
These Terms constitute a legally binding agreement between you and Uplyva Limited (company number 16793056, registered at 124 City Road, London EC1V 2NX), the operator of the Chore mobile application.
You must be at least 18 years of age to create an account and use Chore.
By creating an account, you represent and warrant that:
Chore reserves the right to verify your age and identity at any time. Failure to provide accurate information may result in account suspension or termination.
To use certain features of the Service, you must create an account and provide accurate registration information.
You are solely responsible for:
You may not:
Chore is not liable for any loss or damage arising from your failure to protect your account information.
You agree to use the Service only for lawful purposes and in accordance with these Terms. You must:
You may not post, upload, or transmit any content that:
You may not post, accept, or attempt to arrange chores that involve:
Posting or accepting a prohibited chore will result in immediate removal of the listing and may result in account suspension or termination. We may report prohibited activity to the relevant authorities where required by law.
Chore reserves the right, but is not obligated, to monitor, review, and remove any content that violates these Terms or is deemed inappropriate, at our sole discretion, without notice.
Chore is a user-to-user service and is subject to the Online Safety Act 2023. You must not post, transmit, share, or facilitate any illegal content through the Service, including but not limited to content that:
Uplyva Limited will remove illegal content upon becoming aware of it and will cooperate with Ofcom, law enforcement, and other regulatory authorities as required by applicable law. We may report illegal content or conduct to the relevant authorities without notice to you.
Users who encounter illegal content or conduct on Chore should report it immediately through the in-app reporting system or by contacting contact@uplyva.com.
By posting content on Chore, you grant Chore a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license to use, reproduce, modify, and display such content in connection with operating the Service.
Chore charges a 15% transaction fee on each completed transaction. Stripe's standard processing fees apply, which are outside our control and may vary. The estimated earnings that will be credited to a Helper's account after fees are deducted are displayed on the Chore card.
All payments must be made through the Chore app using the designated payment methods. Off-platform payments are strictly prohibited for safety and fraud prevention purposes.
As Chore is a platform connecting independent users, Chore itself does not provide the services performed by Helpers and therefore does not offer refunds on behalf of Helpers. Any disputes regarding the quality or completion of services are between the Poster and the Helper directly. Chore's role is limited to facilitating the connection and processing the payment.
You are solely responsible for determining and paying any applicable taxes arising from your use of the Service.
All payments are processed through Stripe, Inc. ("Stripe"), our third-party payment processor. Chore uses Stripe Connect to facilitate payments between Posters and Helpers.
For Helpers (receiving payments): By creating a Stripe Express account to receive payments through Chore, you agree to be bound by the Stripe Connected Account Agreement, available at https://stripe.com/connect-account/legal, as the same may be modified by Stripe from time to time. As part of your agreement with Stripe, you also agree to provide accurate and complete information about you and your business, and you authorize Chore to share transaction information and information about you with Stripe for purposes of facilitating payment processing.
For Posters (making payments): By making a payment through Chore, you authorize Chore and Stripe to charge your designated payment method for the Chore amount plus applicable fees.
Chore does not store or have direct access to your full payment card details. All payment information is handled securely by Stripe in accordance with Payment Card Industry Data Security Standards (PCI-DSS).
Stripe may impose additional terms, conditions, or fees for certain payment methods, currencies, or transactions. You are responsible for reviewing and complying with Stripe's terms.
Payout Schedule: Helpers will receive payouts according to Stripe's payout schedule for Express accounts. Initial payouts may take longer than subsequent payouts. Payout timing is determined by Stripe and may vary based on your bank, location, and account history. Uplyva Limited has no control over payout timing.
In the event of payment disputes, chargebacks, fraud claims, or verification issues, you agree to cooperate with Chore and Stripe in resolving such matters. Stripe may hold funds or request additional information as required by their policies.
When using Chore, you agree to:
If you choose to meet another user in person:
Chore is a platform that facilitates connections between users. We do not employ, recommend, or endorse any users.
Chore does not provide insurance coverage of any kind for Posters, Helpers, or any third parties. This includes but is not limited to public liability insurance, employers' liability insurance, personal accident insurance, and property damage insurance.
Helpers performing physical services do so entirely at their own risk. Posters who invite Helpers into their home or onto their property do so at their own risk. You are solely responsible for obtaining any insurance you consider appropriate for the services you perform or receive through Chore.
We strongly recommend that Helpers performing physical services obtain appropriate public liability insurance before undertaking any chore. We strongly recommend that Posters check whether their home insurance policy covers third parties working on their property.
Uplyva Limited accepts no liability for any injury, loss, or damage arising from the absence of appropriate insurance.
Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits our liability for:
All other limitations in this Section apply only to the fullest extent permitted by applicable law.
Chore is a platform that facilitates connections between independent users. Uplyva Limited is not a party to any agreement or transaction between Posters and Helpers. We do not employ, endorse, recommend, supervise, or control any user or the services they provide. The contract for any chore is solely between the Poster and the Helper.
Chore does not verify the identity, skills, background, qualifications, licences, or reliability of any user. You are solely responsible for evaluating the suitability of other users before engaging with them, entering their home, or allowing them into your home. We encourage you to use our review and rating system, communicate clearly through the app before agreeing to a chore, and follow the safety guidance in Section 5.
Whilst we operate a reporting and moderation system to address user misconduct, we cannot guarantee the behaviour of any user before, during, or after a chore. You accept that any in-person interaction carries inherent risk and that Uplyva Limited is not responsible for the conduct of users.
Subject to Section 6.1, Uplyva Limited and its affiliates, officers, directors, employees, and agents shall not be liable for:
Subject to Section 6.1, our total aggregate liability to you arising out of or in connection with these Terms or the Service, whether in contract, tort (including negligence), breach of statutory duty, or otherwise, shall not exceed the greater of:
The Service is provided "as is" and "as available." We make no warranties, express or implied, that:
We do not exclude any implied terms that cannot be excluded by law, including the implied term that we will provide the Service with reasonable care and skill under the Consumer Rights Act 2015.
Uplyva Limited is not responsible for resolving disputes between Posters and Helpers. If you have a dispute with another user, you should attempt to resolve it directly and in good faith. You may report serious concerns through the app and we will review them in accordance with our moderation policy. By using Chore, you release Uplyva Limited from any claims, demands, and damages arising out of or in connection with disputes between users.
Uplyva Limited operates a moderation system to detect and remove content that violates these Terms or applicable law, including illegal content as defined under the Online Safety Act 2023. We will cooperate with Ofcom and law enforcement as required by applicable law. Users must not post, transmit, or facilitate any illegal content through the Service.
Helpers using Chore are independent self-employed individuals. They are not employees, workers, agents, partners, or representatives of Uplyva Limited for any purpose whatsoever. Nothing in these Terms creates or implies any employment, worker, agency, or partnership relationship between Uplyva Limited and any Helper.
Uplyva Limited does not control, direct, or supervise the manner in which Helpers perform services. Helpers are free to accept or decline any chore, set their own availability, and determine how they carry out the services they agree to perform.
Each Helper is solely responsible for:
Uplyva Limited does not guarantee minimum earnings, a minimum number of chores, or continued access to the platform. Use of Chore does not constitute an employment or worker relationship and does not give rise to employment rights including but not limited to minimum wage, holiday pay, sick pay, or unfair dismissal protections.
If HMRC or any tribunal determines that a different employment status applies, this shall not affect the validity of the remaining provisions of these Terms.
Chore may suspend, restrict, or terminate your account if:
Where it is safe and practicable to do so, we will notify you of a suspension or termination by sending a notification to your registered email address or through the App, explaining the reason for the action taken and, where applicable, how long the suspension will last.
We may suspend your account without prior notice where:
In all cases where notice was not given in advance, we will inform you of the suspension and the reason for it as soon as reasonably practicable afterwards, unless we are legally prevented from doing so.
If you believe your account has been suspended or terminated in error, you may submit an appeal through the in-app appeals process or by contacting contact@uplyva.com within 30 days of the suspension. We will review your appeal and respond within 14 days. Our decision on appeal is final.
During a suspension you will not be able to post chores, accept chores, or communicate with other users through the App. You will retain access to your Stripe account and the ability to withdraw outstanding earnings as described in our Privacy Policy.
You may delete your account at any time via Settings → Delete Account in the App. Upon deletion your access to the Service will be terminated immediately and your personal data will be deleted in accordance with our Privacy Policy, available at uplyva.com/chore/privacy-policy.
If your account has been suspended, you cannot delete your account through the App. To request deletion of your personal data during a suspension, you must contact us at contact@uplyva.com using the button provided on the suspension screen in the App. Upon receiving your request we will:
We will confirm receipt of your deletion request within 5 business days and complete the deletion of eligible data within 30 days. You will be notified when the deletion has been completed and informed of any data that is being retained and the reason for its retention.
After the suspension period ends, your email address, Stripe account identifier, and all remaining data will be permanently deleted in accordance with our Privacy Policy, unless we are required to retain it for longer by law.
Upon termination of your account for any reason, your right to use the Service ceases immediately. The following sections of these Terms survive termination: Section 3.6 (Content Licence), Section 6 (Disclaimers and Limitation of Liability), Section 7 (Independent Contractor Status), Section 10 (Indemnification), Section 11 (Dispute Resolution), and Section 12 (Disputes Between Users).
All content, trademarks, logos, software, and materials provided through the Service are the property of Uplyva Limited or its licensors and are protected by copyright, and other intellectual property laws.
You may not copy, modify, distribute, sell, or create derivative works from any part of the Service without Uplyva Limited’s express written permission.
You retain ownership of all content you submit to Chore. You grant us the licence described in Section 3.6 solely to operate the Service. We do not claim ownership of your content.
You agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless Chore and its affiliates, officers, directors, employees, and agents from and against any claims, liabilities, damages, losses, costs, or expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising out of or related to:
These Terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of England and Wales, without regard to its conflict of law principles.
If you are a consumer resident in Scotland, Northern Ireland, or any other jurisdiction, you will benefit from any mandatory provisions of the law of the country in which you are resident that cannot be excluded by contract. Nothing in these Terms affects your rights as a consumer to rely on such mandatory provisions of local law. In particular, nothing in these Terms affects your statutory rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015 or any equivalent legislation applicable in your place of residence.
Subject to Section 11.2, you agree to submit to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts located in England and Wales for any disputes arising out of or relating to these Terms or the Service.
Before bringing any formal legal claim, we encourage you to contact us at contact@uplyva.com to attempt to resolve the dispute informally. We will endeavour to respond within 14 days and resolve complaints within 30 days where possible.
Uplyva Limited is not a party to agreements between Posters and Helpers. We do not adjudicate disputes, guarantee outcomes, or compensate either party for losses arising from another user's conduct. Our role is limited to providing the platform and, where appropriate, facilitating communication.
If you have a dispute with another user, you should first attempt to resolve it directly and in good faith through the in-app messaging system. We encourage all users to communicate openly before escalating a concern.
If direct resolution is not possible, you may report the dispute to us by contacting contact@uplyva.com within 14 days of the issue arising. Your report should include:
We will acknowledge your report within 5 business days and aim to complete our review within 30 days. Where a dispute involves potential misconduct, fraud, or a violation of these Terms, we will investigate and may take action including warning or suspending the other user's account.
Chore's dispute review process is a moderation function, not a legal or arbitration process. We cannot compel either party to take any action, transfer funds between users, issue refunds, or make legally binding determinations. Our decisions regarding moderation are final and made at our sole discretion.
Where a dispute involves a financial claim, the appropriate route is through the courts or an alternative dispute resolution (ADR) scheme. The UK government provides information on ADR at gov.uk.
If a Poster initiates a chargeback or payment dispute through their card provider or bank, you agree to cooperate with Chore and Stripe in providing information to resolve the dispute. Initiating a fraudulent or bad-faith chargeback may result in account suspension and recovery of associated costs.
If you have a complaint about Chore or Uplyva Limited directly, please contact us at contact@uplyva.com. We will acknowledge your complaint within 5 business days and aim to resolve it within 30 days. If we are unable to resolve your complaint, you may refer it to an approved alternative dispute resolution provider or, if you are a consumer, seek assistance from Citizens Advice at citizensadvice.org.uk or the relevant trading standards authority.
Chore reserves the right to modify or update these Terms at any time. If we make material changes, we will notify you through the App and require you to review and accept the updated Terms before continuing to use Chore. You may not assign or transfer these Terms or your account without Chore's prior written consent. Chore may assign these Terms to a successor entity in the event of a merger, acquisition, or sale of all or substantially all of our assets, provided that the successor entity agrees to be bound by these Terms and you are notified within 30 days of such assignment.
